what i can't understand if this has been going for some time, then one has to ask who knew....if there is a another parent why would anyone just stand by. it would appear the school knew then why didn't they take action;reporting to the authorities....i am sorry for anyone who has to endure such treatment, no one deserve it. to those who felt it was a family matter need to reassess.

There was no other parent in the home for a time. My parents are divorced, and my father only recently remarried a few years ago. The problem is that there is a large grey area for that aspect - is it discipline or domestic violence? Some would say dv, others would say discipline. Its all a matter of perspective and opinion. Like I said previously, everyone has different views and schools are held to a strict guideline. If there is no mark of being hit, then they cannot do much. I've been through those hoops and I understand. But, at least now someone has stepped up and the situation is being handled.

what is wrong with you? because something is reported in the paper doesn't make it your business to go so far beyond a short comment. this is a good family, under all the same stresses and strains as the rest of us. sometimes regrettable things happen. respect their privacy, feel for their embarrassment at having their personal matters aired so publicly, hope things get better for them, and get off your high horse! what makes you think you're immune to mistakes and the knee-jerk judgements of people who know nothing of the circumstances of others?

I'm sure your intentions were good, Annemarie, but are you really sure this was the best venue for discussing this? Your father and your sister deserve better. And you don't owe some knuckle-headed stranger an explaination.
