Fugitive Arrest Tops the List

Thursday, Nov. 18

The Connecticut State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigations Casino Licensing & Operations Unit responded to Mohegan Sun, where they arrested Christopher Richards, 24, on charges of breach of peace, interfering with a police officer and criminal trespass.

A bond of $250 cash was assessed, and a court date of Nov. 19 was set.

At 2:18 a.m., Montville Police arrested John Prado, 30, of 107 Forster St., Hartford, and charged him with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and speeding on highway: up to 85 mph. A nonsurety bond of $500 was set. The report says police stopped him on Route 2A west on a suspected motor vehicle violation. A court date of Dec. 7 was set.

Connecticut State Police Bureau of Special Investigations Casino Licensing and Operations Unit reported the arrests of Danielle Marie Marholin, of 321 Sterling Road, Sterling, CT, and Amanda R. Walsh, 23, of 550 Liberty St., Braintree, MA, following a fight on the concourse of the MGM Grand Casino.

The report says that both subjects "were highly intoxicated" and were taken into custody by state police, without incident. They were released on nonsurety bonds of $500 each, and charged with third-degree criminal mischief and breach of peace.

At 1:21 a.m., Connecticut State Police reported a collision on the Norwich-Westerly Road. A 2008 Honda Civic driven by Clifford Barrows, 23, of 101 Hunters Road, Norwich, and a 1998 Buick Regal driven by Allen E. Mclaughlin, 38, of Levant, ME, collided on Route 2 at the westbound on-ramp from MGM Grand Drive. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were driven from the scene.

Nov. 16

On Interstate 395 at Exit 82, a 1993 Ford Explorer driven by James L. Paquette, 32, of 243 Oxoboxo Cross Road, Oakdale, rolled over on the Exit 82 off ramp for 395 South in Norwich. Paquette was ejected from the vehicle. Amanda L. Kopetz, 25, of Bozrah, a passenger in the Explorer, was not ejected.

Paquette got up, got back into the Explorer and drove away, the report says. Police located him later and Kopetz's house. Kopetz and Paquette were transported to the hospital for minor injuries. No other vehicles were involved, and no property was damaged, the report says, other than Paquette's Explorer, which was totaled.

Ethelyne C. Batson, 72, of 79 Oak Hill Road, Oakdale, was traveling south on Interstate 95, near Exit 92, when her 2005 Ford Taurus veered onto the left shoulder and struck a wire rope guardrail. It traveled along the guardrail for about 200 feet before stopping, the report says. Neither Ethelyne Batson nor her passenger, Edwin Batson, 74, of the same address, was injured. The car was towed.

At 11:21 a.m., Connecticut State Police arrested Bernard Reid, 63, of 61 Holycross Circle East, East Longmeadow, MA, after a one-vehicle accident on Route 32.  Reid was charged with failure to drive in the proper lane, and operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  A $500 bond was set. David B. Hayes was the arresting officer.

At 7:15 a.m., on Interstate 395 in Montville, a 2004 Jeep Cherokee driven by Lianne M. Roderick, 30, of 71 Laurelwood Road, Groton, "traveled off of the road," according to the police report. Neither Roderick nor her passenger, Ricky Brumaghim, 11, of 71 Laurelwood Drive, Groton, was injured.

Connecticut State Police reported that a 1998 Mazda Protégé driven by Kelsey Shellman, 22, of 118 High Rock Road, Groton, and a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan driven by Kerri Lawton, 38, of 66 Church Road, Oakdale, collided when traffic slowed on Interstate 395 in Montville. The report says that all involved were wearing seatbelts and were not injured. Lawton was verbally warned for following too close.

A 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Shannon Verissimo, 24, of 438 Cherry Lane, Oakdale, and a 2006 Kia Sorrento driven by Alyson Hagar, 26, of 151 Old Norwich Road, Quaker Hill, collided on Interstate 395. The Connecticut State Police report says that Verissimo's car was stopped in the left lane for traffic from a previous incident, and the car driven Hagar collided with it.

There were no reported injuries and no other vehicles involved.

Monday, Nov. 15

At 1:16 a.m., on Route 32 in Montville, Montville Police arrested Jeffrey Wrightington, 28, of 724 Old Colchester Road, Uncasville, and charged him with failure to drive right/at slow speed and operating under the influence of drug or alcohol. The arresting officer was Gary Galdenzi. His report says that he "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the operator's breath." The report says that Wrightington failed a field sobriety test. A court date was set for Nov. 30.

At 1:59 a.m., on Mohegan Sun Blvd., Connecticut State Police arrested Kimberly Sandstrom, of 85 Simsbury Lane, Simsbury, CT, and charged her with driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The arresting officer was Trooper Michael Prescott. A court date was set in Norwich for Nov. 23. 

Sunday, Nov. 14

Cars driven by Naoko Hollenbeck, 31, of 191 Daniel Brown Drive, Mystic, CT, and Steven Prescott, 29, of 36 Flintlock Road, Ledyard, collided on Mohegan Sun Blvd.

Connecticut State Police say that Prescott's vehicle failed to obey the control signal at the intersection of Route 2A west and Mohegan Sun Blvd. The vehicle driven by Hollenbeck was traveling eastbound on Mohegan Sun Blvd. No injuries were reported on the scene. Hollenbeck's vehicle, a 2000 Toyota 4Runner, was towed to Shantok Motors; Prescott's vehicle, a 2003 Mustang, was towed, also. Police say his vehicle was totaled. Prescott was issued an infraction for failure to obey control signal.

A 1997 Toyota 4Runner owned by Tracy Lee of 245a Elizabeth St, Norwich, and a 2007 Honda Accord owned by William L. Cormier of 115 Slocum Road, Hebron, collided on Mohegan Sun Blvd.

Curtner Akin, 23, of Salem, OR, was driving the 4Runner, which police say was totaled.

Cormier, 60, was driving the Accord, which was towed to Heiner's with a damaged front end. Also in the Accord were Sharon Cormier, 61, and Amy Cormier, 24.

The report says the 4Runner was turning left from Exit 2 on Route 2A to Mohegan Sun Blvd., and had a green light. The Accord was in the right center lane, a turn-only lane, southbound on the Mohegan Sun Blvd. The Accord did not turn, the police report said, but continued straight, striking the 4Runner, which overturned. Akin was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Nov. 13

Montville Police arrested Robert L. Young, 37, of 21 Gutterman Road, Uncasville, and charged him with failure to drive right, operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, operation of a motor vehicle when registration or license is refused or suspended. The arresting officer was Addison Saffioti. The arrest was made at 601 Route 32. A court date was set for Nov. 30, and a bond of $1,000 was set on the operating under the influence charge.

Montville Police arrested Freddy Lugo, 24, of 162 Gallivan Lane, Uncasville, and charged him with evading, failure to drive at a reasonable distance, and interfering with an officer: simple assault. A surety bond of $500 was set; the accused was processed for an outstanding warrant from Connecticut State Troop E. The arresting officer was Michael Pelletier.

Connecticut State Police reported a collision between a 2009 Audi driven by Christopher Kennedy of 100 Gerald Drive, Vernon, CT, and a 2008 Infiniti sedan, driven by John Lahiff.

The collision happened on Route 2A westbound, in the right lane. Kennedy's vehicle was stopped because of traffic when, the report states, the car driven by Lahiff hit it from behind. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were driven away.

Nov. 12

On Nov. 12, the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Criminal Investigations Casino Licensing & Operations Unit cited Curtis J. Henderson, 28, of 54 Baboosic Lake Road, Merrimack, NH, with creating a public disturbance in the Mohegan Sun Arena & Hotel lobby. Henderson had been excluded from a concert, the report states, and was escorted to the Cabaret care center. He refused to stay there, the report says, and was escorted to his hotel room, during which time he became belligerent and was detained by Tribal police.

Montville Police arrested Sonya L. Grillo, 37, of 51 Laurel Drive, New London, and charged her with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The arrest was made on Route 32 at Avery Road. The arresting officer was Michael Pelletier. A bond of $500 was assessed, and a court date of Nov. 23 was set.

On Nov. 12, Conn. State Police were called to a domestic incident at 140 Woodland Drive, Montville. Franklin Post was charged with breach of the peace and interfering with a 911 call. A bond in the amount of $500 was set; the case was scheduled to be heard in Norwich.

On Nov. 12, Montville Police reported a 911 hang-up at 49 Lathrop Road, Uncasville. The report says police found a domestic disturbance at the address. Arrested were Eugene Buhka, 66, and Katrina L. Kolasa, 38. Both live at 49 Lathrop Road. Each was charged with disorderly conduct, and a $500 nonsurety bond was set on each. Both reported minor injuries, but no ambulances were called.

Nov. 11

On Nov. 11, Montville Police arrested Christopher J. Dubucki, 26, of 26 Lacroix Road, Sprague, and charged him with 3rd degree burglary, improper registration, insurance coverage fails minimum requirements, 6th degree larceny, and operating or towing an unregistered motor vehicle. A bond of $5,000 was set on the burglary charge.

The arresting officer was Addison Saffioti. The report says that Dubucki was seen breaking into property on Massapeag Road; "the witness/victim followed the accused and called 911 until this officer was able to stop the accused and place them into custody." Saffioti made the arrest at 328 Kitemaug Road. A court date of Dec. 2 has been set.

On Nov. 11, Montville Police arrested Jerrold P. Allyn, 32, of 26 Lacroix Road, Sprague, and charged him with 3rd degree burglary and 6th degree larceny/theft from a building. A bond of $5,000 was set on the burglary charge. The arresting officer was Addison Saffioti; the arrest was made on 328 Kitemaug Road, Montville.

Saffioti reported that a witness/victim followed the accused, and called 911.

Nov. 10

On Nov. 10, Connecticut State Police, Eastern District Criminal Investigations, Casino Licensing & Operations Unit charged Angelique A. Cullen, 28, of 1674A Ministerial Lane, Wakefield, RI, with possession of marijuana and drug possession. The police report states that the accused was "attempting to access the Mohegan Sun Arena through a security check point. During a search of the accused's hand bag, security officers discovered clear plastic bag containing marijuana and drug paraphernalia."

A court date of Dec. 9 was set, and a bond of $250 was assessed. The investigator was Det. R. Padula.
