Police Seek People Who Vandalized Cemetery

Neo-Nazi Graffiti in Comstock Cemetery Is Probably the Work of Local Kids, Lt. Leonard Bunnell Says

Neo-Nazi graffiti in Comstock Cemetery is probably the work of local teens, Montville Police Lt. Leonard J. Bunnell Jr. said on Saturday.

The graffiti appeared about two weeks ago, Bunnell said. Similar graffiti defaced trailers at Smufit-Stone at about the same time, Bunnell said.

Police have some leads in the case, and are hoping that someone will come forward with information.

"It's kids, mimicking what they see on the internet and on TV," Bunnell said.

This is not the first time that something like this has happened in Montville. The most recent incident involved the defacing of headstones, a few months ago, Bunnell said. Five juveniles were found hanging around in the cemetery around that time, and police arrested them on charges of trespassing. They were not doing graffiti, Bunnell said.

"That's the only way we're going to stop this, if we have no witnesses, and we have no evidence," he said. "We're looking for someone who wants to give us some information, or a tip."
