Police Report Crashes, DUI Charges

State, Montville Police Make Arrests

March 12

At 12:42 p.m., Connecticut State Police responded to a two-car accident on Interstate 395, at Exit 78. A 2003 Jeep Liberty driven by Iris Velazquez, 50, of 274 Augur St., Hamden, and a 2005 Ford Explorer driven by Lindsay Lehmann, 34, of 16 Wilkinson St., Putnam, collided. Minor injuries were reported at the scene.

At 1:26 a.m., Montville Police arrested Robert J. Goody, 25, of 29 Vermont Drive, Oakdale, and charged him with driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. The report says Goody’s vehicle was found in a field off of Dock Road, and Goody was found to be under the influence.

At 2:31 a.m., police arrested David B. Winship, 40, of 76 Spring Grove Road, Chepachet, RI, and charged him with failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. He was assessed a $500 bond on the latter charge, and given a court date of March 29. The report says Winship was observed driving erratically on Interstate 395, and failed a field sobriety test.

March 15

At 12:46 p.m., police responded to a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 395, north of Exit 80 in Norwich. A 2004 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Florence Turner, 42, of P.O. Box 33, Montville, and a 2007 Infiniti G35 driven by Michael Cooney Jr., of 430 McGill Place Northeast, Atlanta, GA, collided. Turner’s vehicle sustained damage to the read bumper; Cooney’s front end was damaged. His vehicle was towed. There were no injuries.

At 1:28 a.m., Montville Police arrested Julie E. Chase, 26, of 242 Broadway, Norwich, and charged her with failure to display reflectorized safety number plate and driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. The report says that during a motor vehicle stop, the officer noticed a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage … coming from the breath of the operator.” The report says Chase failed field sobriety tests. She was charged a $500 bond, and given a March 29 court date in Norwich.
