Montville Police Plan Safety Checkpoint

Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Police Might Be Stopping You on Route 32

On Thursday, on Route 32 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the Montville Police Department will be conducting a seat belt and child safety seat checkpoint as part of the statewide Click it or Ticket campaign.

The Click it or Ticket It campaign, according to a press release, plays a critical role in the effort to keep people safe on roads and highways. The campaign aims to heighten awareness that seat belts save lives. Aggressive enforcement of safety belt, child safety seat, speed, and DUI laws will remind motorists to use good highway safety sense, especially during the highly traveled summer months.

Ejection from the vehicle is one of the most injurious events that can happen to a person in a crash.

In fatal crashes, 75 percent of passenger car occupants who were totally ejected from the vehicle were killed. Safety belts are effective in preventing total ejection: only one percent of the occupants wearing a seat belt were totally ejected, compared with 22 percent of the unrestrained occupants.

The goal of the Click It or Ticket Mobilization is not to give out tickets, the press release says, but rather to influence people to buckle up and prevent injuries and fatalities, the press release says.
