Montville Police Make Multiple Arrests in Sobriety Checkpoint

The activity occurred Friday night into Saturday morning on Route 163

Montville Police, working with the Montville Resident Trooper’s Office, staged a sobriety checkpoint Friday night into Saturday morning, on Route 163 near the Montville Fire House.

New London Police and members of the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffice Enforcement team – which includes members from the East Lyme, Ledyard, Norwich and Groton Town police departments – helped, according to a press release.

The activity resulted in six arrests on charges of driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Two of the people arrested were repeat offenders with multiple DUI arrests on their records, the press release said.

Other arrests included:

  • Two charges of operating while under suspension
  • Two charges of misuse of registration
  • Two charges of driving unregistered vehicles
  • Two charges of driving without insurance coverage
  • Multiple charges of equipment issues and seat belt violations.

Several warning with issued for other equipment violations and minor motor vehicle regulations violations.

Ledyard Police sent a narcotics-trained K9 and handler to the checkpoint, resulting in four drug arrests.

Drug-related arrests include:

  • Three charges of possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana.
  • One charge of possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
  • One charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • One charge of possession of tobacco by a minor
  • One charge of interfering with police
  • One charge of drinking alcohol while driving
  • One charge of theft of marker plate
  • One charge of risk of injury to a minor
  •
