Montville Police Log, July 31 to August 4

A DUI checkpoint, near-accident at an accident scene, and more in incidents recorded by the Connecticut State Police and Montville Police Department

DUI checkpoint

The Montville Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint during the evening hours of August 2 and early morning hours of August 3. The department was assisted by the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Enforcement team, which includes officers from the East Lyme, Groton Town, Groton Long Point, Ledyard, Norwich, and Waterford police departments.

The checkpoint resulted in three arrests on driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs charges, five arrests on possession of less than one ounce of marijuana charge, one arrest on a possession of narcotics charge, and one arrest on a charge of possession of prescription medication not in container.

The following arrests were recorded at Connecticut State Police Troop E. An arrest does not constitute a conviction and all are innocent until proven guilty.

July 31

Joseph Osterberg, 25, of 35 Buck Street in Newington, sixth-degree larceny, breach of peace, $5,000 bond. According to the Connecticut State Police Casino Licensing and Operations Unit, Osterberg turned himself in on an outstanding warrant.

Aug. 1

Alexandra T. Haggett, 22, of 178 6 Meetinghouse Lane, second-degree failure to appear in court, $500 bond. According to Conncticut State Police Troop E, Haggett was arrested on a warrant.

Aug. 2

Aaron T. Loew, 34, of 819 Monroe Road in Littleton, N.H., possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, narcotics not kept in original container, use of drug paraphernalia, $6,000 bond. According to Connecticut State Police Troop E, Loew drove through a spot check on Route 163 and officers determined through questioning that he was in possession of illegal substances.

Paul H. Killeen, 58, of 6 Maple Road in Quaker Hill, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, $500 bond. According to the Montville Police Department, Killeen was arrested at a sobriety checkpoint on Route 163.

Loydeeka D. Mitchell, 36, of 8 Park Road, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, $500 bond. According to the Montville Police Department, Mitchell was arrested at a sobriety checkpoint on Route 163.

Anthony Williams, 34, of 1258 Baldwin Street in Waterbury, second-degree criminal mischief, $500 bond. According to Connecticut State Police Troop E, Williams was issued a summons on Mohegan Sun Blvd.

Aug. 3

Crystal L. Ellal, 32, of 60 Jerome Road, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, reckless driving, no bond listed. According to Connecticut State Police Troop E, an officer at a motor vehicle collision observed Ellal traveling north on Route 32 at a high rate of speed near the Route 2A on-ramps. Ellal was stopped after he had to swerve to avoid striking a Montville police officer and again to avoid a tow truck in the far right lane.

Theresa Prudot, 64, of 1544 Route 12 in Gales Ferry, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, no bond listed. According to Connecticut State Police Troop E, an employee at the Mobil station on Mohegan Sun Blvd. noticed Prudot was unsteady on her feet after pulling into the station and called police. The Mohegan Tribal Police and troopers responded and arrested Prudot after having her perform sobriety tests.

Nathan Paymon Jr., 76, of 18 Denison Street in Hartford, simple trespass, $92 bond. According to the Connecticut State Police Casino Licensing and Operations Unit, Paymon returned to the Mohegan Sun Casino after a previous permanent ejection.

Accidents

At about 8:54 p.m. on July 31, a 1997 Acura 3.5 RL driven by 30-year-old Amber Schwartz of Wethersfield collided with the rear of a 2005 Ford Escape driven by 48-year-old Ong Chonmany of Springfield, Mass., at the intersection of Mohegan Sun Blvd. and the Exit 1 on-ramp for Route 2A westbound. Schwartz’s vehicle had severe front-end damage and was towed, while Chonmany’s vehicle had minor rear end damage and was able to leave under its own power. Schwartz was issued a misdemeanor summonses for driving under suspension and making a restricted left hand turn and released on $500 non-surety bond.

At about 9:16 p.m. on July 31, a collision occurred on the Route 2A westbound on-ramp about 500 feet north of Mohegan Sun Blvd. between a 2007 Nissan Maxima driven by 72-year-old Michele Mucciacciaro of Waterbury and a 2006 Honda Pilot driven by 50-year-old Soleena Keth of Quaker Hill. Both vehicles had minor damage and did not need to be towed. Keth was issued a written warning for failure to maintain proper lane.
