Montville Police Department Welcomes New Officer

The Montville Police Department welcomed a transfer from New London into their ranks on Monday, swearing in Andrew C. Nameth as the department's 23rd officer.

Nameth served four years in the New London Police Department after his graduation from the Connecticut Police Academy in 2009. He began field training immediately after a brief ceremony at Montville Town Hall, where he received his shield.

Mayor Ron McDaniel and Lt. Leonard Bunnell said Nameth comes to the department with experience and training, including knowledge of community policing.

"We can continue down that path of becoming a nice community-oriented police department," said McDaniel.

Nameth graduated from Ledyard High School in 2000 and earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Connecticut in 2004. John Hracyk, a Montville resident who taught shop at Ledyard High School for 33 years, attended the swearing in.

"All high school teachers can remember their 10 top students, and he is certainly one of them," said Hracyk.

Nameth is also a captain in the Connecticut Air National Guard. He served a tour of duty in Afghanistan as the deputy squadron commander of the 103rd Security Forces.
