Montville Approves DUI Enforcement Grant

Town is one of Connecticut municipalities receiving funds to combat drunk driving

Montville has approved the receipt of a $79,800 state grant aimed at reducing DUI incidents.

On Monday, the Montville Town Council unanimously voted to accept the Comprehensive DUI (Driving Under the Influence) Enforcement Grant Program. The vote also authorized Mayor Ron McDaniel to accept the grant from the Connecticut Department of Transportation and to "execute any and all manner of other documents and to take such other actions as he and the Town Council may deem appropriate and in the best interests of the Town of Montville in order to receive, contract, and expend the above referenced grant funds."

The grant funds are part of a DOT program to enhance DUI enforcement. The motion accepted by the Council says the grant will allow the Montville Police Department to conduct high visibility enforcement aiming to reduce the number of fatalities or injuries resulting from driving under the influence.

The state is providing $59,850 for the program, while Montville is providing a 25 percent match with $19,950. This requirement will be met through the payment of fringe benefits for police officers involved in the program.
