Man Charged With Damaging Glass Sculpture At Mohegan Sun

A 25-year-old Massachusetts man has been charged with damaging a glass sculpture at the Mohegan Sun casino.

Dennis Griggs, of 23 Karen Lane in Abington, Mass., was charged with first-degree criminal mischief on Saturday and given a $500 non-surety bond.

According to the Connecticut State Police Casino Licensing & Operations Unit, Griggs was hanging over a railing to touch the sculpture when he fell into the artwork. The incident caused an estimated $1,500 in damage.

NBC Connecticut said the damaged sculpture was the well-known "River Blue" piece at the casino. Designed by Dale Chihuly, the sculpture consists of 2,500 hand-blown glass components and weighs five tons, according to casino materials.

Griggs will make his first court appearance on May 23 in the G.A. 21 Court in Norwich.
