High Winds Take Tree Down

Police Report No Other Major Issues

The high winds brought down this huge tree at 85 Fellows Road in Oakdale, at about 4 Saturday afternoon.

Oakdale Fire Chief Gary Murphy, reached just before 6 p.m., said he was sitting by the tree, waiting for the power company to arrive, and the tree was starting to burn.

Montville Police reported some TV cable lines down on Connecticut Boulevard in Oakdale, but said that "so far," that was all the wind-borne damage.

Murphy says a limb came down on wires on Chapel Hill Road, also.

The tree on Fellows Road was about 40 feet tall, Murphy said.

"It's a big pine tree. It looks like it's split right in half."

The split half landed on primary wires, he said. The power is not out, but the power company will have to turn it out to extricate the tree from the lines, Murphy said. He believes that the Public Works Department will end up having to clear the debris away after the power company gets the tree off the wires.
