UPDATE: Spill Turns Out to Be Dye Only

Fire marshal says there's no danger to the public

What was described as a "caustic acid" spill has turned out to be a spill of brown dye, according to Fire Marshal Ray Occhialini.

Rand-Whitney CEO Jim Wood says the spill happened at around 2:30 this morning. The Department of Environmental Protection, and clean-up company Clean Harbors are on the site this morning.

“It’s nothing really serious so far,” Montville Dispatch said this morning.

Mayor Ron McDaniel came to the site this morning, said Wood. "He'd only been on the job for 20 minutes," he said.

Occhialini and the Montville Fire Department were still on the site, lending support, at 10 this morning. Occhialini expected to be on site for a couple hours.
