Update: Oxoboxo Bones Are Human

Lt. J. Paul Vance says detectives are continuing to gather information

Lt. J. Paul Vance, public information officer for the Connecticut State Police says that bones found Sunday afteroon off of Oxoboxo Dam Road are indeed human.

State Police at Troop E were notified Sunday around 4 p.m. that bones had been found in a wooded area near the roadway. The area was secured, Vance said, and the major crime squad was called in.

The human remains appeared to be partially buried, Vance said, near the surface.

The area was secured, and detectives returned to the scene today, along with the state medical examiner, a forensic anthropologist and other experts.

The road has been closed for much of the day, as detectives examine the evidence and the area. Vance said it is being treated as a crime scene. Vance anticipated that detectives will be at the scene throughout the day.

The bones will go to the chief state medical examiner's office, where a post mortem examination will be conducted.
