Amtrak Orders Bridges Closed Due to Forecasted Extreme Cold

The New London, Groton, Mystic and Lymes bridges will be affected.

Patch has received a report that Amtrak has ordered that all opening bridges in New England remain closed starting at 8 p.m. Monday night "due to the significant drop in temperature forecasted. They will reevaluate the openings sometime on Wednesday. Amtrak is afraid the extreme temperature change will affect the bridge closing and locking fully. Amtrak will make exceptions for emergencies."

A number of Amtrak bridges are movable in our region including East Lyme, Niantic, Groton, New London and Mystic.

The full Amtrak alert can be seen here.
