Accidents, False Report, DUI Charges

The following arrest information was supplied by Connecticut State Police and Montville Police. It does not indicate convictions.

Nov. 24

At 6:59 p.m., State Police responded to a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 95, near Exit 90 in Stonington. Sherri Smallridge, no address given, 35, lost control of her vehicle and struck the guardrail on the left shoulder. There was moderate damage to the 2001 Toyota Camry she was driving. She was not injured, but her passenger, Louis Diandre of Lebanon reported a possible injury and was transported to Lawrence & Memorial Hospitals in New London.

At 10:231 p.m., Gerard J. Lefevre, 53, of 48 Harrington Drive, Plainfield, contacted Troop E and, according to the report, said that he had been assaulted by two black males while in the parking garage of the Mohegan Sun Casino. Lefevre said the men had stolen $3,000 from him. After an investigation, the report says, police determined that Lefevre had given a false statement and that the incident had not occurred. He was taken into custody on a charge of making a false statement, and was assessed a $1,000 nonsurety bond. He was given a court date of Dec. 7.

Nov. 26

At 5:08 p.m., police responded to a three-vehicle accident on Route 395 northbound. The report says that Cameron Stuart Chatham, 23, of 278 Child Road, Woodstock, lost control of the 2007 Suzuki motorcycle he was driving, and laid it down on the road. Vehicles driven by Bruce Fitzsimmons, 54, of 17 DEnmore Lane, Old Saybrook, and Alan Briggs, 26, of 17 Margaret St., New London, both hit the motorcycle. Chatham was transporte to Backus Hospital for minor injuries. He was wearing a helmet, but no high-visibility clothing.

Dec. 2

James Ferrante, 23, of Laurel Drive, Montville, turned himself in at Troop E at 4:40 p.m., on an active warrant regarding an alleged domestic violence incident on Nov. 30. He was assessed a $10,000 surety bond, and given a Dec. 5 court date.

Dec. 5

At 1:20 a.m., police arrested Franklin Fink, 31, of 16 Summit Ave., Norwich, and charged him with driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, and failure to drive right. He was assessed a $500 nonsurety bond and given a Dec. 13 court date. The arrest came after an accident involving Fink’s vehicle and a pole on Route 32.

 Dec. 9

At 9 p.m., Montville Police arrested Todd Smith, 50, of 96D Woodland Drive, Uncasville, and charged him with strangulation in the second degree, assault in the third degree and disorderly conduct. He was assessed a $10,000 bond to be presented at court on Dec. 11.

Dec. 10

At 9:02 p.m., police arrested Michael J. Shulman, 42, of 113 Betty Spring Road, Gardner, MA, and charged him with driving while under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. He was assessed a cash bond of $500 to be presented at court; no court date was noted in the report. The arrest followed a traffic stop on Lebel 2 of the Riverview parking garage at Mohegan Sun Casino.

Dec. 11

At 12:10 a.m., Montville Police arrested Janina Garcia, 31, of 24 Bellevue Place, New London, and charged her with breach of peace in the second degree. The arrest came at a party on the Oxoboxo Dam Road in Montville.

At 4:56 p.m., Waterford Police arrested Jessi Schrader, 23, of 9 Hunters Road, Norwich, on a larceny charge. According to the report, it was determined that there was an active warrant for Schrader on a Montville Police larceny charge involing a purse theft in July. Shrader was transferred to Montville. A $500 surety bond was assessed, and a Dec. 29 court date was set.
