Montville and the Mohegan Tribe have an interesting relationship, to say the least.
The town exists on land that was part of the Mohegans' home territory. Now, the tribe is authorized to take 700 acres of Montville, without its claims being contested. It now has more than 300 acres, and in February, received approval to take 35 more acres into trust. Click here to read that story.
The tribe gives the town $500,000 annually for capital improvement, but has promised more than that to Palmer, MA, where it hopes to build a casino.
The tribe has helped improve the infrastructure of the town, and the Mohegan Sun brings people and money into the area - but that has a downside in traffic and other issues.
So what do you think about the tribe? How would you characterize the relationship between the town and the tribe, and what would you like to say? Please take the poll and feel free to use the comment box.
