Patch's Poll: How Far Will You Travel over the Fourth of July Holiday?

AAA predicts an increase in travel this year. Will you be among those on the road?

According to the latest from AAA, when July 4 falls on a Wednesday, it tends to increase the number of holiday travelers.

AAA predicts that "42.3 million Americans will journey 50 miles or more from home during the Independence Day holiday weekend, a 4.9 percent increase over the 40.3 million people who traveled last year."

The "holiday" travel period is Tuesday, July 3, to Sunday, July 8.

“AAA’s projection for a decade-high number of Independence Day travelers is being fed by Americans’ appetite for travel, a mid-week holiday and lower gas prices,” said Bill Sutherland, vice president, AAA Travel Services. “This is the second holiday this year where travelers indicated a determination to travel while economizing by actively seeking value-added travel options and activities.”

Do you plan to travel for the July 4 holiday? Will you take a day trip, stretch the holiday into a vacation, or avoid the crowds and stay close to home? Take our poll and tell us in the comments.
