It's Called Owling, And It's A Hoot

Just perch and shoot - anyone can do it!

It’s called owling, and if you want to do it and be cool, then you better go do it right now, because as fads go, these kind go quickest.

According to the Washington Post, owling just replaced planking. Planking is when you lie face down in a weird or dangerous spot. Owling is when you perch like an owl in a weird or unusual place.

Of course the key is that you take photos of yourself doing this, and upload them to your Facebook. Or owling’s Facebook, as the case may be.

Anyway, the 13-year-old heard about owling last week from somewhere, and has been to perch since. So on Thursday Summer and Max and their constant partner in escapades, Reilly, grabbed my camera and headed into the Borough. My instructions were thus:

  • No trespassing on private property.
  • No going into stores.
  • No bothering people.
  • No getting in trouble.

Other than that, knock yourselves out.

They were gone all afternoon. They came home with 84 photos and a bellyful of laughs.

(Oh, and fyi, according to the Washington Post now, it’s all about batting. I can’t wait to tell the kids.)
