Montville Cop Helped Injured at Boston Marathon

Karen Moorehead is a Montville Police Officer but lives in Gales Ferry.

Gales Ferry resident and Montville Police Officer Karen Moorehead and Connecticut State Trooper Jeff Meninno were cheering on runners at the Boston Marathon when the bombs exploded Monday.

Instead of running for safety the two off-duty police officers ran into the fray to help. They told reporters at WTNH that they helped about 10 people but a photographer captured an image of the pair administering first aid to one patient in particular.

"He asked us if he was going to die," said Moorehead in an interview with News 8.

"He was going into shock, he lost a lot of blood," Meninno told reporters. "It was the most horrific thing I've seen that close."

Gov. Dannel Malloy called to personally thank them and people are calling them heroes, according to the report.

"We're just cops," said Meninno.

"Most people that are trained to do what we do, would have done exactly what we did," agreed Moorehead.
