MEF scores with Golf Tournament fundraiser

Golfers hit the greens to raise some green on August 12th at the Montville Education Foundation’s (MEF) fifth annual “Tee it up for Education” Golf Tournament at Mohegan Sun Country at Pautipaug Golf Course.  Excitement was in the air on the gorgeous summer day when Brian Heller nearly sank a hole in one shot as his ball landed just inches from the hole.

Tournament chair Brian McNamara announced the lucky net and gross foursome winners. The Stewart Title team of Michael and Kevin Shannon, John Huhn and Larry Feen took first place Gross for their dead-on shots.  Second Place Gross, went to foursome Chuck Treat, Tom Tashea, John Szarzynski and Bill Pieniadz.  First Place Net winners were the foursome from Ulasik Sheet Metal, Steven Skinner, Shayne McAvoy, Jon Caron and Chris Pomroy.  Second Place Net went to Bill MacNeilly, John Fournier, Jason Blackburn and Chris Thomson.  First Place Net Women’s group was Donna Yother, Susan Sterigo, Ellen Lavin and Kathy Stelik.

Sharing golf stories about some of their scores, golfers dined at an evening awards banquet.  The buzz translated into bucks toward the foundation’s support of the entire Montville community and its residents of all ages, through the MEF Grant Program.

“We absolutely love this tournament.  It is well run and we always have a great time, commented Phil Warzecha, President of P&D Mechanical.  “Already looking forward to next year”, Warzecha continued.

Since 2008, MEF and its supporters have raised and donated thousands of dollars to fund various instructional programs and projects in the town and district, including teaching aids and other items that have been used to expand learning opportunities in technology, mathematics, science, social studies, art, music, engineering, bilingual education, adult education, character education, special services, and other academic areas.“

Through its generous contributions, the MEF board and its membership prove that “promoting a community of lifelong learners, makes a direct impact in Montville”, President Linda Patton Heller said.

MEF officials were equally as appreciative of the community’s support.“The Montville Education Foundation greatly appreciates the fantastic level of sponsorship and participation as usual from this giving community,” McNamara said.  “This tournament doesn’t come together by itself.  We have an excellent group of Directors and volunteers that work long and hard to make this event run smoothly and I am very appreciative of their efforts”, McNamara continued.

MEF’s next event is a Comedy Night, scheduled for November 2, 2013, at the Montville Polish Club.  For more information on how to donate and support the MEF visit www.montvilleeducationfoundation.org.
