Connecticut Firearms Confiscation Begins?

Last week I noticed a nefarious program instituted in California to confiscate legally owned firearms using nebulous reasons as the justification.  Here is a link to the article.

I will admit that the references I cite below are not the most trustworthy and we certainly do not know all the circumstances of each case but one has to wonder.

In the first instance, it seems the victim is a model rocket enthusiast as well as a gun owner.  Therefore, according to the Fairfield Deputy Police Chief, the man must be a terrorist building bombs and planning terrorist activities.  Obviously then, all the “bomb making” rocket fuel chemicals and all the guns must be seized and destroyed.

The causative circumstances for police involvement are unclear and the reasons for the apparent violation of the Fourth Amendment even less so.

In the next event, the victim was errant in his methods but did not break any law including PA 13-3 as amended.  Note that he has not been charged with violating any firearms statute.  He is guilty of not using common sense but he is not a gun criminal.

Again, the reasons behind the search and seizure are unclear.  It seems that the mother-in-law filed for a restraining order for reasons unknown as well as apparently falsely reporting a domestic disturbance.  Under PA 13-3, that is sufficient reason to violate the Fourth Amendment.  Under PA 13-3, establishing a clear and present danger to anyone is not required.

The next issue is not about the Fourth Amendment but involves a Silver Alert for a man named Howard Morgan.  The Silver Alert system applies to any missing person age 18 years or older who has a mental impairment or is 65 years of age or older. Both Amber Alert and Silver Alert systems create an emergency notification system for law enforcement agencies to broadcast local, regional, or statewide public alerts via radio, television and electronic highway signs. The Silver Alert system mandates that law enforcement immediately begin searching for missing individuals who are ages 65 or older, or ages 18 and over if mentally impaired. Once the police receive a missing person’s report and a description of the missing person, the information is broadcast via radio, television, and electronic highway signs through the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The alert was issued around 5:00 AM today and canceled about 7:30 AM.  The authorities have not, and will not, release any details about why the alert was issued.  My point here is that the authorities made a point of proclaiming the Mr. Morgan was POTENTIALLY ARMED.

This was another instance of the state government promoting the concept that all gun owners are mentally impaired, terrorists, or of evil intent.
