A Most Interesting Poll…

Somehow, I missed this poll when The Day put it up.  The results are most interesting but give me pause to consider the ramifications.

Te question was “What are your opinions on the mandatory registration and the ban on certain types of weapons?”

Total people participating, 1519

Non-gun owners who are thankful for registration and glad to see the Second Amendment diminished, 27 percent or 410 people

Non-gun owners who feel the Second Amendment has been degraded, 18 percent or 273 people

Gun owners supporting registration, 8 percent or 122 people

Gun owners who feel threatened and will comply with the requirement, 5 percent or 76 people

Gun owners who feel Second Amendment rights out weigh the threat of imprisonment, confiscation of guns, and a felony crime record, 33 percent or 501 people

Gun owners who do not own guns requiring registration, 9 percent or 137 people

If these results are not skewed by some people not telling the truth about resisting, I think it can be assumed that sometime in 2014, 501 people will be either in jail or dead depending on the degree of resistance they are truly willing to exhibit.

Again, assuming the 501 people will actually resist it will be most interesting to see how and when state and/or local law enforcement agencies react.  The law states that unintentional failure to register and declare is a Class A misdemeanor with a $90.00 fine.  Intentional failure is a Class D felony punishable with a mandatory, non-reducible, one-year prison term.  By virtue of the fact that the person is now a felon and ineligible for firearms ownership, all of that person’s guns will be confiscated and destroyed.

That is assuming that the person does not physically resist when the police come through the front door.  I expect the law enforcement agencies will presume armed resistance and show up in the middle of the night with SWAT teams and armor (MRAPs).  I think the state police might show some restraint and talk a bit before the shooting starts.  With local police, however, I would expect an MRAP through the front door with suppressive fire without prior notice (women and children be damned).

With any law enforcement agency’s involvement, at least one person is going to wind up dead.  Whether it is an officer or a citizen is up to chance. However, I think if an officer is injured or killed, the citizen will be taken into custody by the coroner.

I hope the governor and the comucrats in the General Assembly are happy with the results of their efforts and I expect some of them will be positively gleeful with the body count.
