Lest We Forget ...It's Veterans Day Weekend

Ceremony and celebration Sunday and free meals and discounts abound.

It's Veterans Day weekend and the Montville VFW Post 10060 and Montville American Legion Post 112 are celebrating the holiday with the annual Veterans Day ceremony slated for Sunday at 11 a.m. at the American flagpole in front of Montville Town Hall.

Their annual party, at the Post located at 91 Raymond Hill Road, will follow the ceremony and will feature music and lunch and is open to the public.

And as a reminder, there are a lot of awesome offers for vets from free dinner at area restaurants to discounts at retailers like Home Depot.

Must have proof of military service.

I easily found dozens and dozens of great deals on The Military Wallet website, and you should definitely check it put; the list of three pages long and with many restaurants located in New London County (like Olive Garden in Waterford), but right here in Montville, I found Chili’s, free meal from 11 to 5, and a 10 percent discount Home Depot.

For so much more information for veterans and about veterans check out the Veterans Affairs website.

Let's not forget Lowe's discount for veterans. They offer it 365 days per year, not just on Veteran's Day. Thank you, Lowe's and others who honor our Veterans. I am more supportive of these businesses which offer the discounts to Veterans and not just the general public. If business wishes to honor the Veterans, this is the way it should be done. How do they honor Veterans by offering special prices (sales) to the general public? That is just using the day as a way to increase sales and does nothing for the Veterans.
