Turning Kids On To Recycling in Montville

At the Montville Transfer Station, Daisy Scouts learn all about recycling with Flo!

Flo Turner, Montville Public Works employee, shared with Montville Patch the latest on a recycling education program she’s been working on that brought Daisy Scouts to the Montville Transfer Station.

Turner said the program, coordinated by Winston Averill, the regional recycling coordinator of Southeastern Connecticut Regional Resource Recovery Authority, is at once fun and educational.  She said the program includes a section on recycled materials and a hands-on demonstration on how paper is recycled.

“Each scout was able make their own piece of paper to take home.  They decorated their paper with hearts for Valentines Day and shamrocks in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. In the past year we have brought this program to four Daisy Scout Troops and one Cub Scout troop,” Turner said.

And she urged anyone interested in bringing this program to his or her group contact Montville Department of Public Works director Donald Bourdeau at (860) 848-7473
