Remembering Ireland' Easter Rising (April 24-29th, 1916)

The New London Division of the Ancient

order of Hibernians, the oldest Irish Catholic Fraternal Organization in

America, will host a talk by Ted Lovely on the 1916 Easter Rising also known as the

Easter Rebellion.  It's been said that

the history of Ireland can be divided into two parts - that which happened before

1916 and all that followed 1916. This talk will describe the seven men who

led the Rising and sacrificed their lives for a free Ireland. The Rising in Dublin

is truly an amazing story which sounds like fiction yet it was all true.

There was a countess, a

knight, poets, musicians, teachers, writers, and a Marxist

all of whom gave their lives to the cause of Irish self-rule. A handful of men

who took on the most powerful military force in the world at the time. Their

sacrifices and the reasons for those sacrifices are not unlike those of the

1981 hunger strikers.

Ted Lovely is a retired educator who

lives in Trumbull and recently served as Chairman of the Trumbull Board of education.

He also serves as the past president of the John F. Kennedy Division of the

AOH in Bridgeport, CT and is a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy.
