Update: Plows Are Out, Roads Are Clearing

Let's see your snow photos!!!

The winter's first snow fell Monday night, and caused the regular spate of wintry problems by this morning.

Montville Public Schools had a two-hour delay today, and there was no morning kindergarten.

Mayor Ron McDaniel said that Public Works Director Don Bourdeau called him last night around 10 to let him know the trucks were out.

“These guys know what they’re doing,” McDaniel said.

Montville Police reported multiple crashes in town overnight, but nothing major.

Connecticut State Police at the Troop E barrack in Montville said they had a busy night, as well.

"We cleared it up at 1 .a.m. from a bunch of accidents," the dispatcher said this morning, "and it's starting again because people are going to work. People are driving too fast."

He said the roads are slick, and stressed again that people need to drive slowly.

"DOT did a good job clearing it," he said, "but there’s a slippery coat."

Connie Burgess of Montville was out and around Monday night and wrote, "Great job done by our police and snow removal team on the night of the 16th. Much worse conditions than forecast, but officers were out patrolling to spot problems, and our dedicated plow drivers made the roads passable, and the hills clear, much better than other towns I drove through to get home!"

Lisa LaBelle England write on the Montville Patch Facebook page that "the police are right, the roads are terrible. if there's not snow still covering the roads, then there are downed trees in the way."

The temperature is forecasted to rise as the day goes on, with occasional rain and a high near 46, according to the National Weather Service.
