Think you know snow? Just snow you know, there are 30 classes/types/names attributed to snow – from falling dendrite flakes to the already on the ground stuff including Depth Hoar (multi-faceted snow crystals) to firn – snow that’s been on the ground laying flat for a year or more.

The reason for the lesson is just a fun segue into how much money Montville has spent to date pushing, shoving, shoveling and dumping the ‘snirt,’ which is snow coved in dirt, out of our way.
Of the $75,000 allocated for snow removal for 2013, to date the town has spent $73,936 clearing away heaps, mounds and mountains of the white stuff, according to budget documents provided to Patch.
