Five Great Things about August

It's one of the best months of the year

1. The weather! August brings the essence of summer weather, doesn't it? It’s hot, it's bright and it’s exciting. Expect sun today, with a high near 88, and a chance of thunderstorms tonight.

2. The cooler nights! A low tonight in the mid-60s presages more cool nights to come. We all think of August as hot, but you wait. Mid-month, the night temperatures will start to drop, and while August days could still be scorching, relief will slip in overnight. Part of the change is that the nights are getting longer… Sunrise today is at 5:43, and sunset at 8:07 p.m.

3. August is harvest time! Last week, Tri-Town Foods had a sign out for Malerba’s corn. Stop & Shop has good fruits and veggies, and Herb’s Country Market is just about bursting with fresh produce. Check the Montville Patch mid-week for “What’s Fresh,” our roundup of farmers’ markets in the area. Check here for last week’s to help you plan ahead.

 4. There’s lots going on! The at Montville High School, , lots of at WildRose Horse Farm and tons more stuff. Check out the newly renovated Events section to see more!

5. August is the only month with two “u’s” in it, and the only month that is also an adjective. What’s the only month that’s also a verb? And the only day of the year that’s a command?

Thought for the day

“The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams.” - Og Mandino
