Daily Five: Half School Days, Last Days for Voter Reg and Our Remarkable Rotary

Your Daily Five has stuff you need. Really.

1. We’ll have a sky peppered with clouds which could produce some afternoon showers. But it will be mild; a high of 65 is expected.

2. Oh those half school days…  Tyl Middle School is in the midst of parent-teacher conferences.  Students attend morning classes and the conferences begin at 12;30 and go until 8 p.m.  Also, as a heads-up, Friday Oct. 26 is early dismissal for all Montville public schools; staff professional development is slated for the afternoon.

3. Rotary clubs do an enormous amount of good in this world. I’ve covered them from Miami to Mystic and now to Montville and In every case the clubs consist of local business folks who at once meet to network and brainstorm about how to make our community a better place. Anyway, it may be after 7 when you read this so it will have to be next week, but do make a 7 a.m. breakfast where the Rotary Club of Montville enjoys camaraderie each Tuesday at the Hyatt Place Hotel 2049 Norwich New London Turnpike in Uncasville.

4. If you are doing mail-in voter registration that envelope MUST be post marked today. A week from today, Tuesday, Oct. 30 is the last day to register to vote in person in Connecticut.

5. Montville elementary school kids are so committed to raising awareness and money for breast cancer research that it is inspiring! Mohegan Elementary School’s Pink Power Team is on board like Oakdale and Dr. Charles E. Murphy. Mohegan will have a special dress down day Wednesday and donate money to the Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation in the name of Traci Hart.
