Daily Five: Council on Ethics Complaint, Cancer Awareness Campaign Kickoff and Awesome August

1. Another awesome August day in store with low humidity, sun and clouds, virtually no chance of rain. Enjoy it because one way or the other, we will see some wet from Isaac. 

2.  The big news in this Five, is this: today at 3 p.m., the Town Council is poised to decide whether or not to pursue an ethics complaint against a town councilor. Montville Patch has heard plenty about this, but will wait until the meeting today – we’ll be there – and report back.

3.  The , right down the road in Waterford. Breast cancer survivors and community members with an interest in the breast cancer issue are encouraged to attend the free and open-to-the-public reception at the Atria Crossroads Place, 1 Beechwood Drive, Waterford, beginning at 6 p.m. For more information call Elsie Melita at (203) 379-4810 or register online. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk of New London County will be held on Sunday, Oct, 28, 2012 at Harkness Memorial State Park.

4. The Public Safety Building Committee meets tonight with a full agenda that includes Town Planner Marcia Vlaun’s building status update.

5. A ecause, in part, Akin’s “beliefs are an affront to victims, and all women, and do not reflect the views of the party I'm running to represent.”  Missouri Congressman Todd Akin, an incumbent Republican member of the House of Representatives refuses to withdraw from for the U.S. Senate race in his home state. Akin said that as he understood it, it is rare for a woman to become pregnant from “legitimate rape,” as “the female body has ways to try and shut that whole thing down.”
