  • 3 percent of pet owners prefer giving Valentine gifts to their pets, rather than to humans, as pet are more grateful.
  • Each year, around 1 billion Valentine cards are sent.
  • Children between ages 6 to 10 give more than 650 million Valentine’s cards to their teachers, classmates, and family members.

Science says the chocolate freaks among us are right. Chocolate contains  flavonoids, an antioxidant that has heart-health benefits. Here's how some of the chocolates you might get today add up, in terms of health, according to Gloria Tsang, author "Go UnDiet: 50 Small Actions for Lasting Weight Loss." Tsang is also the founder of HealthCastle.com.

  • Cocoa powder: Cocoa powder ranks highest in flavonoids, and is lower in calories than dark or milk chocolate
  • Dark chocolate: Dark chocolate has tons of flavonoids, and about twice the fat and calories of cocoa powder.
  • Milk chocolate: Milk chocolate has about the same calories as dark chocolate, but often contains no flavonoids at all. Flavonoids are only present if you find cocoa solids or cocoa liquor on the ingredient list.
  • White chocolate: White chocolate does contain cocoa butter, but it does not contain any cocoa solids or cocoa liquor, so it does not offer any heart health benefits. It's a bit of a stretch to call it chocolate at all!
