Who:   Middle/High School Students, Friends and Family

Time:  9 AM - 12 PM

Place:  MG Maurice Rose Armed Forces Reserve Center,

335 Smith Street, Middletown, CT

Academy Day will feature representatives from each of the academies – US Military Academy at West Point, US Naval Academy, US Air Force Academy, US Merchant Marine Academy and the US Coast Guard – who also bring current cadets or midshipmen when possible, to talk to prospective students about the academies, what they look for in their applicants, and also what life is like for their cadets/midshipmen.  We will also have representatives from collegiate ROTC programs, the National Guard and Reserves and other programs that provide an alternate route to commissioning as an officer in the US Military.

This forum provides an excellent opportunity for students with an interest in a Service Academy and their parents to learn more about the academies’ application processes and to learn from the Service Academy Coordinators in each Congressional office about our nomination application processes, which are a completely separate but necessary part of the Academy application process.

It is also a great opportunity for younger students to learn about the rigorous academic standards of each academy, so that they can plan ahead with their high school courses to make sure that they are taking the higher level math and science classes that are highly coveted by the academies.  With each academy forced to shrink its incoming freshman classes for years to come, and with a growing number of applicants at each academy, competition for admission is extremely tough and will only get tougher.  Therefore, it is critical that students who are interested in attending an academy put themselves on a rigorous academic path sooner rather than later.

The Delegation is hopeful that events, like Academy Day, will help older middle schoolers and younger high schoolers to understand what is necessary academically and extra-curricularly to compete for admission to a service academy.
