How to see if you are getting the best financial aid package. Great blog explaining what the award letters are really telling you and what information they are leaving out.

Working in the Career Resource Center at Montville High School, I se a lot of information that crosses my desk or pops up in my email.  This email from The College Solution caught my attention right away.

Lynn O'Shaughnessy, Blogger l Author l Speaker l Consultant, writes timely posts on information to assist parents and students in the college search.  Her latest blog is perfect for this time as students are now getting information back from colleges and trying to make a decision as to where they will attend this coming fall.

If you can make some time to visit her links below – it will be well worth it.  Every bit of information you can gather to help you make the right choice “financially” of where to attend can save you big time upon graduating.

BEWARE OF MISLEADING FINANCIAL AID LETTERS

Find out what's happening in Montvillewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

This is the time of year when high school seniors are nervously opening up their financial aid letters.  Unfortunately, parents find most financial aid awards confusing and that's a tragedy since tens of thousands of dollars or more can be at stake.

Some colleges make their award letters difficult to decipher. After all, if families knew how they were being shortchanged financially, they might pick other schools. In March, I wrote three blog posts that explained how to evaluate any financial aid award.

My posts shared real copies of financial aid letters including those from George Washington U. Fordham U., University of Portland and Columbia U. Pass along these posts to your clients with teenagers so they can  decrease their chances of getting snookered when they sit down with their financial aid awards.
