Visit Your Favorite State Park for Free with a Day Pass

Want to go to a Connecticut State beach, park or forest for free this summer? It’s as simple as visiting your local library! The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has again partnered with the Connecticut Library Consortium to provide state park and forest day passes at the main library branch for each Connecticut town.
According to the DEEP, the pass, which is officially called the “2013 No Child Left Inside State Parks and Forest Day Pass”, waives parking fees at all four state park beaches on Long Island Sound, which includes Harkness Memorial in Waterford, Rocky Neck in East Lyme, Hammonasset in Madison, and Sherwood Island in Westport.
It also can be used at the seven inland state parks with swimming areas, which consist of Indian Well in Shelton, Wharton Brook in Wallingford, Squantz Pond in New Fairfield, Black Rock in Watertown, Mount Tom in Litchfield, and Burr Pond in Torrington, and numerous other parks.
Additionally, the pass covers the admission fee for 2 adults and 4 children at state historical site exhibit centers at Dinosaur State Park in Rocky Hill, Fort Trumbull State Park in New London, and Gillette Castle Park in East Haddam.
The pass is valid for one private vehicle carrying fewer than 12 passengers and is not for commercial use. You can visit your local library to sign out the pass and enjoy Connecticut’s great outdoors.
