Montville Plaza to Close Oct. 9 for Renovations to Mirror Plainfield Plazas

The Montville Service Plaza will close Oct. 8 for renovations that will mirror the newly renovated plazas now open in Plainfield.

A new orange sign on I-395 informs travelers that the Montville Service Plaza will close Tuesday, October 9 for renovations.

The plaza is located off the southbound lanes past exit 79A and currently consists of a Mobil gas station and Mobil Mart.

It is directly across from the State Police Troop E Barracks.

Connecticut Department of Transportation (DOT) spokesman Judd Everhart confirmed the scheduled closing date and said that those renovations will take about nine months.

If all goes according to schedule, travelers should be able to enjoy a new facility in July 2013.

The renovations are expected to mirror those made to the newly reopened I-395 Plainfield Service Plazas which have been met with enthusiasm from those closest to the project.

“We are proud to announce the Plainfield locations have now reopened for business. Both properties have been completely renovated with a new Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway along with a Mobil Mart Convenience Store,” said Paul Landino, President/CEO of Project Service LLC, adding that, “our entire team and CT DOT have done a terrific job working together to complete these two properties. We are excited to see Dunkin’ Donuts and Subway for the first time at these I-395 sites.”

Both locations also have renovated Mobil gasoline stations.

Department of Transportation Commissioner James P. Redeker said, “We are making great progress under our partnership with Project Service. The fresh, clean look, combined with fresh, healthy food alternatives, provides a great incentive for travelers to stop in and take a break on our highways.”

This is the third set of highway service plazas to be completely remodeled or rebuilt by Project Service, LLC. The first two sets are on Merritt Parkway (Route 15) in North Haven and Connecticut Turnpike (I-95) in Milford.

There are a total of 23 plazas statewide.

“Currently, there are six additional construction projects underway,” a DOT press release states, adding that on I-95 northbound and southbound, “Branford and Darien are currently scheduled to reopen in the Spring of 2013.” On Route 15, “Fairfield NB is scheduled to reopen by the end of October 2012” and “Fairfield SB is scheduled to reopen by the end of November 2012.”

The press release states that “three additional locations will begin redevelopment in October. They are the northbound and southbound locations in Greenwich on Route 15 and the Montville Service Plaza on I-395”.

Project Service and the State of Connecticut signed a 35-year agreement for the service plaza renovation and operation project in late 2009.
