Coutu to Go on Two Months of Army National Guard Training

State Rep. Chris Coutu, Republican candidate for Congress in CT's 2nd Congressional District, announced today that he will be spending 2 months out of state as part of an Army training assignment.

State Rep. Chris Coutu, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District, announced Thursday that he will be spending two and a half months out of state as part of an Army training assignment.

“It’s been an honor to serve for 17 years in the Air Force and Army National Guard.  You make some sacrifices just for the opportunity to serve, but that opportunity, to be a small part of America’s great legacy of service, has meant the world to me,” said Coutu. “To continue my military career I have to fulfill certain obligations. That means mandatory training this winter and early spring.  Taking some time away from the campaign trail is a small sacrifice for an Army officer to make.”

Coutu is a 17-year veteran of the Air Force and Army.  He served as a sergeant in the Air Force before attending Officer Candidate School (OCS) to be commissioned as an officer in the Army.  He completed OCS while serving as a state representative.  He is currently a second lieutenant in the Army National Guard.  His training assignment is scheduled from February to April.

Coutu continued, “While I’m on my training assignment in South Carolina, the campaign will continue at full speed.  While I’m gone, we will be opening a campaign headquarters, sending staff and volunteers to events and Republican Town Committees, hosting fundraising events, and organizing volunteer phone banks and door-to-door canvassing.  Thanks to our grassroots volunteers, this will continue to be the most active and visible campaign in the state.  We won’t miss a beat.”
