VIEWFINDER: Blumenthal Praises Rand-Whitney

Sen. Richard Blumenthal visited the Rand-Whitney plant in Montville Tuesday, and spoke with management and workers about the plant, its history, its production and its future.

Montville Mayor Ron McDaniel accompanied the senator on the tour.

General Manager Rick Hartman, and Chief Administrative Officer Jim Wood stressed that Rand-Whitney and the town of Montville are rebuilding their relationship these days.

In June, the town and the company signed a memorandum of understanding on the company's use of and payment for water.

The town has been repaying bonds to cover a nearly $12 million settlement in a breach-of-contract suit with Rand-Whitney over water; the first principal payment of roughly $1 million is due this year.

But the town and the plant say the acrimony is in the past.
