According to the press release, Rand-Whitney was selected for the award for reducing its electricity load by 12,000 kilowatts in the summer of 2008 without the use of back-up diesel generation, an effort that was part of ISO-New England’s Load Response program.

Twenty organizations took home awards for their efforts in energy conservation, the release says.

“The organizations we honor today have taken real, concrete steps to reduce their energy use and by doing so have not only saved money but have helped save the planet as well,” DEEP Commissioner Daniel C. Esty said at Wednesday's ceremony.

“By taking simple steps to reduce electricity use, all of us can preserve available energy resources and help Connecticut achieve cleaner, cheaper, and more reliable electrical power.”

Way to go, Rand-Whitney!
