Problem-Gambling Expert to Resign This Month
The legislature is scheduled to take up the question of legalizing online gambling. What do you think about the idea?
The man who co-founded the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling is resigning at the end of the month, just as it looks that internet gambling is going to be reborn.
The West Hartford News says that Marvin Steinberg, a Guilford resident, will leave his executive director position this month.
The News says that Steinberg has "testified countless times before the state General Assembly and forged collaborations with both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods Resorts Casino to develop responsible gambling programs."

A bill scheduled to come before the Connecticut Legislature in the session that opens in February would legalize online gambling. This week, Sen. Andrea Stillman came out against on-line gambling.
Of the 73 votes received in Montville Patch poll about online gambling, 62, or 84 percent, said they believed it should be legalized. Ten people, or 13 percent, said it should never be legalized.

Commenters said "Online poker should be legal at the national level!" and "increasing availability of gambling thru online access can not be good for society," and "The people playing are adults and should be in charge of what they do and don't do. NOT the feds/state/towns."
