Montville man, New London partner open Motorsports Nation, selling motorcycles, dirt bikes, quads, jet skis, skateboards and more

Montville's Kyle Champagne and business partner Scott Anthony have opened a new motorcycle shop in Waterford, Motorsports Nation LLC at .

The shop, which specializes in Yahmaha and Suzuki products, sells motorcycles, dirt bikes, pedal bikes, quads, skateboards, jet skis, clothes and accessories.

“I’ve been looking for a place in the area for 10 years,” said Anthony, who owns another store in Plainfield. “It is great we finally found a place.”

The Back Story

Anthony, who grew up riding quads, was working as a traveling salesman for True Value when Champagne asked him for some help at his motorsports store in Columbia. What started as weekend job turned into a passion, Anthony said.

“I went from helping out on Saturdays to running the store in a year,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun.”

Anthony opened up Motorsports Nation in Plainfield about a decade ago. He has been looking for a place around New London for years, but nothing materialized.

In 2011, he found 110 Cross Road, an office building across from Waterford’s complex. Last week, after his final license was approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles, Anthony closed on the property for $1 million.

The store has been open since last week, but Anthony, Champagne and crew are still putting together most of the bikes and getting everything ready. A grand opening celebration is planned for March.

The Store

Motorsports Nation in Waterford is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store sells both new and used vehicles, provides servicing for everything from dirt bikes to lawn mowers and will buy used quads, motorcycles, dirt bikes or whatever else.

The key to the business is good customer service, Anthony said. His Plainfield store has one of the highest customer satisfaction rates in the state, he said.

“If we sell you something, we are going to stand behind it,” he said. “We aren’t going to fight you on fixing something or anything like that. Customer service is important to us, and it’s been a good business model for us.”
