Mohegan Sun Reveals More Details of Mass. Casino Plans

The resort casino is projected to cost nearly $1 billion dollars.

Mohegan Sun has been diligently wooing the Massachusetts town of Palmer into an agreeing to host their newest development, a resort casino that includes a retail complex, an aquatic adventure park, two hotels and a casino, and it seems as though their persistence is working.

Town officials and residents applauded the plans presented Monday, according to a report in The Day. The casino is one of three developers are competing for that state’s sole license to operate a casino in that region and so far they’re willing to spend $1 billion to win.

The buildings will be nestled into the landscape of wetlands and forest, according to The Day. Architects told reporters that the layout is akin to a “hill town in Italy or France.”

Mitchell Etess, the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority’s CEO told Palmer, Mass. residents, “It’s going to be like nothing the commonwealth has ever seen, like nothing any other operator is proposing.”

Mohegan Sun Massachusetts will be approximately 52 miles north of Mohegan Sun in Montville and will be located just off the highway. The town still has to vote to approve of the develoment but if all goes as planned, Mohegan Sun hopes to open the casino in three years.
