Mohegan Sun Partners with Finard for Resort Casino Plans in Mass.

The casino is competing for a gaming license in Western Massachusetts.

Mohegan Sun will be teaming up with a Boston-based developer with the hopes of securing their bid for the one and only Western Massachusetts gambling license.

Finard Properties has signed on to help the casino build a 300,000 square foot retail development in Palmer, Mass., according to a report in Boston.com. The duo is competing with two other developers to build a resort casino in Western Massachusetts and all told, Mohegan Sun plans to spend $800 million on the resort casino, according to a report in The Republican.

Early next year, the Massachusetts state gambling commission will grant one gambling license for Western Massachusetts and the contest is between MGM Resorts International, Hard rock International and Mohegan Sun. However, no proposal can win a state gambling license unless endorsed by the voters of its host community.

Regardless of which company gets the license, the new casino is expected to drain business from Connecticut’s two casinos – Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun – and also Hartford. A report issued by the Hartford Courant said,  “Massachusetts residents spent $624.1 million at Connecticut's two casinos — about a quarter of their total revenues, according to a study by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's Center for Policy Analysis.”
