Update: Restocking Fills Shelves at Stop & Shop

Readers report that the power is on and the restocking efforts well under way

When the power went out, Stop & Shop's generators went on, but didn't quite make it through the entire outage.

But the power came on Tuesday afternoon, and workers spent the night stocking shelves, readers report today.

The store is open and operating at full or nearly full capacity, and many in town are thankful.

When the hurricane wound down, the store was open. But, Suzie Robbinson, a Stop & Shop corporation representative, said Tuesday that the storm "put a lot of stress on our stores." She said Stop & Shop felt that staying open was important to serve the customers.

The storm was espeically tough, she said, for the stores working on generators.

"There will be some level of loss," she said. "We will throw things away if we feel they have not been refrigerated properly.

"Obviously, safety is first."
