Good, and Not So Good, News From Electric Boat

The Day reports EB has plans to spend $100 million for facilities upgrades. But layoffs are on the horizon.

While some layoffs at Electric Boat are on the horizon, EB president Jeffrey Geiger said Tuesday there are plans to invest $100 million in facilities upgrades, according to a report in The Day.

Layoffs will come in the next 12 to 18 months, The Day reported Geiger as saying, but down the pike, into 2020 and beyond, the workforce in Groton will grow, Geiger said.

The last significant layoff at EB was last August following the government's decision to ditch plans to fix the USS Miami.
