People laid off by Mohegan Sun from September 2010 to the present are one focus

The CTWorks East Career Centers are offering free re-employment services for employees who were affected by the September 2010 layoff by Mohegan Sun Casino.

According to a press release, the Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board (EWIB), which has its headquarters in Franklin, has received a National Emergency Grant to assist people laid off from Mohegan Sun from September 2010 to the present.

The grant will provide re-employment services throughout the Eastern Connecticut area.

“It’s so difficult to find work right now, especially if you have been involved in a major lay off and have been out of work for some time.” states Katrina Arnott, the Workforce Advisor working with former Mohegan Sun employees.

“This grant will allow us to really help the people affected, not only to assist them with job search, but to offer some skill upgrades to allow them to better market themselves to employers.”

The press release says that the program is free to anyone who was involved in the Mohegan Sun lay off in September 2010, and also to people who were laid off after that initial group.

Services include job search assistance, resume development and critique, pursuit of skill upgrades (including classroom-based learning, online learning, and On the Job Training), networking assistance, and  individualized referrals to community-based support systems.
