Home Precautions After the Storm

Here are some additional safety tips for around the house while power restoration is ongoing.

For most of us, today is Day 3 without power. Here are some additional safety tips for around the house while power restoration is ongoing.

For those using portable generators and extension cords, keep an eye on their use. Extension cords are not meant for long-term use and can overheat and cause a fire.

Also, ensure the generator is away from the house so its exhaust will not enter your home creating a carbon monoxide issue.

Also, and I have seen this a few times now, please do not grill inside your home. By doing this, you risk not only the chance of having a fire, but you are introducing deadly carbon monoxide and other gases into your home. I actually saw a charcoal grill going with significant open flame inside a garage.

Lastly, please do not touch any wires that are down. Just because you do not have power, does not necessarily mean the line is de-energized.
