Giving Back to the Community Through Life Skills!

Teens giving back to their community!

Attached  to this article are some photos from William “Loren” Rickards Senior project. The shed was completed the weekend of May 14th. MYSB is grateful to Loren for choosing our agency as the recipient of such an amazing donation. The shed will be used to store the youth center’s outdoor equipment.

Loren secured donations for his project by writing letters to various potential donors and by soliciting donations through social media outlets and posters. He received many donations from parents involved with our after school program, MYSB Board members, relatives, and friends. However it was the generosity of United Builders Supply ( UBS) and Rings End Lumber that really pulled the project together in terms of the building materials each company donated to the project.

Loren was also fortunate to have a supportive family who helped make his project a reality, Loren’s dad, Jim Rickards provided Loren with strong guidance, his brother Hunter donated time and energy, and Mom, Susan was the best cheerleader and “Errand Gal” he could have asked for! Various family friends, Loren’s peers, and MYSB staff also donated time and support to the project.

Montville High School Life Skills Management teacher Dr. Laura Greenstein assigns seniors the opportunity to choose a project  which benefits others, for a grade in her class. Loren will be presenting the timeline of his project in a ceremony on May 25th at the High School. This is  a glowing example of giving back to one’s community. Loren began his relationship with MYSB in the 6th grade and will be graduating from MHS this June. We are proud of him and grateful as well.

 Thank you! ~ Barbara
