Here's To Getting The Kids Out Of The House...And Knowing What To Do With Them

Spring may have officially sprung, but that doesn’t mean it’s time to break out the shorts and flip flops just yet. We know; we’re all anxious to ditch the itchy wool sweaters and puffy parkas. And yeah, we know the kids are sick of those endless Harry Potter marathons. Don’t worry though, soon enough you’ll be busy enough running from soccer to tennis to ballet—but in the meantime, here’s some kid-friendly activities to keep you occupied.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK

WHERE/WHEN: Wednesday from 3 to 6 p.m. at The Children’s Museum in West Hartford.

WHY GO: It’s Mars Madness! The kids will love driving a simulated rover on the red planet. Plus, enjoy planetarium programs and space-related activities!

PRICING: Starting in March, there will be free admission from 3 to 6 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of every month.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., 300 Main St, Old Saybrook.

WHY GO: Sorry, no dress-clad Travolta in this production—but still lots of big-haired fun.

PRICING: Tickets are $25.

WHERE/WHEN: Friday at 7 p.m. at the Garde Arts Center.

WHY GO: The kids will love supporting their peers in this first-annual show!

PRICING: Tickets are $5 and benefit The Writer’s Block, Ink.

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at Camp Hazen in Chester.

WHY GO: We know you love those kids, but we get that you may want a little time to yourself this summer. From swimming and campfires to windsurfing and mountain biking, the kids will surely find something they love.

PRICING: Prices vary depending on the program, so be sure to stop by the open house for some helpful information!

WHERE/WHEN: Monday and Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Garde Arts Center.

WHY GO: Well other than those alluring ruby slippers, the Garde calls the show “the greatest family musical of all time.”

PRICING: Tickets range from $38 to $56.
