Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

So laundry is piled up to your ears and the refrigerator is beyond empty. And the dog needs a bath and the garbage desperately needs to be taken out. If that to-do list has taken on a life of its own…well, that’s just too bad. Sorry, but we’re not sorry. We’ve got your weekend planned out already! Don’t worry, those chores can wait until Monday.

1. 

WHERE/WHEN: Thursday through Sunday at the North Stonington Fairgrounds.

WHY GO: Live music by Sean Patrick McGraw and Stephanie Hansen, tractor pulls, pageants, hay bale tosses and lots more. Oh yeah, and that yummy fair food.

PRICING: Admission is $7 for adults and children under 12 are free. Senior citizens pay $4 admission Saturday only.

2. SAILFEST

WHERE/WHEN: Friday through Sunday in downtown New London.

WHY GO: , live entertainment, rides, the “,” Tall ship…?

PRICING: Cost varies by event; some events are free.

3. 

WHERE/WHEN: At the Ivoryton Playhouse in Ivoryton. Friday and Saturday’s shows are at 8 p.m. and Sunday’s is at 2 p.m.

WHY GO: Don’t miss this classic on the local stage! Sorry, but Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick will have to sit this one out.

PRICING: Tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for seniors, $20 for students and $15 for kids.

4. MAHOGANY MEMORIES CLASSIC BOAT SHOW

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Connecticut River Museum in Essex.

WHY GO: After checking out these beautiful boats, you’ll be dying for one of your own.

PRICING: Admission is free.

5. 

WHERE/WHEN: At the Mystic Aquarium on Saturday. (Sessions will also be on July 30, Aug. 13 and Sept. 3.) Programs will be held at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

WHY GO: You won’t catch birds like these hanging around your backyard! Don’t miss ‘em when they hit the aquarium’s Sea School Green Stage.
