Get Out: Five Great Things To Do This Weekend

Because It's No Fun To Stay Home All Weekend

Without rain, whatever would you do with those cute polka-dot rain boots and bright yellow raincoats? That’s right, nothing. This weekend is the perfect opportunity to dig out all those umbrellas rolling around the backseat of your car, because, yes, you’re going out. Pick just one event, or cram in all five—we don’t care. And if it ends up being sunny anyway, you’ll surely be glad you made some plans.

1. 

WHERE/WHEN: Friday from 6-9 p.m. at The Pavilion at Ocean Beach Park in New London.

WHY GO: Three key elements: beer, chili and live music. Oh yeah, and you’ll be supporting the New London Rotary Foundation charity projects.

PRICING: Tickets are $30 in advance; $35 at the door.

2. 

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday and Sunday at the Essex Steam Train in Essex.

WHY GO: Maybe the kids will be good this week if they get to take a ride with Thomas. Maybe.

PRICING: Tickets are $19 for children 2 and up. Full schedule here.

3. 

WHERE/WHEN: Parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Williams Park in New London. Chowda’ Fest will be held under the Custom House tent.

WHY GO: Parade, live entertainment and Chowda’ Fest? Why wouldn’t you want to go?

PRICING: Chowda’ Fest tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids under 14.

4. 

WHERE/WHEN: Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Connecticut Expo Center in Hartford.

WHY GO: We know you’ve been wearing those flip-flops since March. And you love summer-themed food samples, entertainment, exhibits and kid-friendly activities.

PRICING: $8 for adults, free for kids 16 and under.

5. 

WHERE/WHEN: Sunday at 8 p.m. at the MGM Grand Theater.

WHY GO: If you like his music, TV show and movies, we bet you’ll like him live.

PRICING: Tickets are $30 to $50.
